RESUME

Les auteurs rapportent une intoxication grave au chlorate de sodium. La toxicité hématologique et rénale de cet herbicide est responsable de manifestations cliniques et biologiques connues depuis près d'un siècle. Ce cas est inhabituel par la présence d'un déficit neurologique sévère, régressif associé à une méthémoglobinéinie modérée sans hémolyse intravasculaire.

SUMMARY

We present the case report of a patient who comitted suicide with a weed - killer containing sodium chlorate. Hematological toxicity and renal insufficiency resulting from the ingestion of this herbicide have been known for almost one century. However this case presented unusual severe neurological symptomatologie: a regressive quadriplegia associated to a moderate methemoglobinenia without intravascular hemolysis.
